Heavy-Duty Non-Slip Coating for Trailers, Ramps & Industrial Areas

Heavy-Duty Non-Slip Coating for Trailers, Ramps & Industrial Areas

Trailers, loading ramps and industrial working surfaces can require a very different level of traction from an ordinary floor.

These areas may be exposed to equipment, heavy foot traffic, oils, chemicals, moisture and demanding working conditions. In these environments, a lightly textured coating may not provide the surface profile required for the application.

SlipDoctors Ultra Grip is a two-component, high-solids, heavy-duty anti-slip epoxy coating designed for industrial and marine environments where increased traction and chemical resistance are important.

Quick Answer

Ultra Grip is designed for demanding commercial and industrial surfaces where a heavy-duty, aggressive non-slip texture is required. Suitable applications include trailers, loading docks, ramps, warehouses, wet-process areas and marine environments.

See Ultra Grip Texture in Action

One of the most useful ways to understand a heavy-duty anti-slip coating is to see the material itself.

In our Ultra Grip application video, the coating is shown from mixing Part A and Part B through to roller application and the finished textured surface.

A wooden board is used as a demonstration surface so the coating consistency, application technique and texture can be seen clearly. The demonstration is intended to show the application process rather than represent a residential use for Ultra Grip.

The finished result demonstrates something that is difficult to communicate through product specifications alone: Ultra Grip produces a pronounced textured surface designed for applications where a higher level of traction is required.

What Is Ultra Grip?

Ultra Grip is a two-component, high-solids epoxy anti-slip coating for commercial, industrial and marine applications.

It is suitable for interior and exterior use and is resistant to grease, oil, gasoline, salt water, alcohol and detergent.

Suitable applications include trailers, loading docks, warehouses, wet-process areas, chemical-processing plants, manufacturing facilities, food-processing areas and marinas.

Because of its aggressive surface profile and industrial positioning, Ultra Grip is not recommended for residential applications.

Why Texture Matters on Ramps and Industrial Surfaces

Not every anti-slip surface needs the same amount of texture.

A commercial walking area may require additional traction while still providing a relatively comfortable surface underfoot. A loading ramp or industrial work area, on the other hand, may require a more pronounced profile because of moisture, contaminants, equipment movement or demanding working conditions.

The correct texture therefore depends on the application.

Ultra Grip is designed for the more demanding end of that spectrum. When applied with a phenolic roller, it produces a uniform ridged surface that provides a visibly aggressive texture.

For applications where a smoother Ultra Grip finish is required, the coating can also be applied using a trowel or flat-blade squeegee.

Ultra Grip for Trailers

Ultra Grip is specifically suitable for trailers, making it an option for commercial and industrial trailer applications where aggressive traction is required.

A trailer used for equipment or commercial operations can encounter moisture, contaminants and repeated loading and unloading. In these environments, the surface requirements can be significantly different from those of a standard vehicle floor.

Ultra Grip is particularly relevant where the priority is a heavy-duty textured epoxy surface and chemical resistance.

Where UV protection and flexibility are higher priorities, Tuff Grip Extreme may be a more appropriate trailer coating.

Ultra Grip for Loading Ramps and Docks

Ramps and loading areas are another strong application for Ultra Grip.

These surfaces often combine incline, foot traffic, equipment movement and exposure to contaminants, making traction particularly important.

Ultra Grip is suitable for steel and concrete and is designed for commercial and industrial environments including loading docks and ramps.

Correct surface preparation remains essential. Existing contaminants, grease, oil, loose coatings and other foreign material must be removed before application.

How Is Ultra Grip Mixed?

Ultra Grip uses a 4:1 mix ratio by volume:

4 parts Part A Base to 1 part Part B Hardener.

Both components should be thoroughly agitated before mixing and combined using a 400–600 RPM variable-speed drill and suitable mixer.

No induction time is required, and thinning is not recommended.

At 75°F, regular-cure Ultra Grip has a pot life of approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, so the coating should be applied promptly once mixed.

How Is Ultra Grip Applied?

Ultra Grip can be applied using a: Phenolic roller, trowel or flat-blade squeegee.

The application method changes the resulting surface profile.

A phenolic roller produces a more uniform ridged texture and is the preferred approach where a pronounced non-slip profile is wanted.

When using a phenolic roller, the coating should be rolled in one direction and should not be over-rolled, as excessive rolling can reduce the non-slip texture.

This is one of the reasons seeing the coating applied on video is useful: the relationship between the application tool and the finished texture becomes much easier to understand.

How Much Area Does Ultra Grip Cover?

Coverage depends on the application method and surface.

Approximate coverage is:

  • 30–40 sq. ft. per gallon with a phenolic roller
  • 40–50 sq. ft. per gallon with a trowel or squeegee

Actual coverage may vary depending on surface porosity and the desired level of anti-slip texture.

How Long Does Ultra Grip Take to Cure?

With the regular-cure system at 75°F, allow approximately:

  • 24 hours before light traffic
  • 72 hours before heavy traffic

A Low Temperature Cure option is also available for applications where lower temperatures need to be accommodated.

Always allow the coating to reach the appropriate cure stage before returning the surface to normal working conditions.

When Is Ultra Grip More Texture Than You Need?

Ultra Grip is intentionally aggressive, and that level of texture is not necessary for every truck, trailer or commercial vehicle surface.

For a truck bed, Armor Grip is the more purpose-specific option.

For food truck floors and commercial vehicle walking areas, Dura Grip provides a less aggressive, barefoot-friendly textured finish.

For trailers where UV exposure, flexibility and corrosion resistance are important, Tuff Grip Extreme may be the better fit.

Ultra Grip is best reserved for applications where heavy-duty industrial performance and aggressive traction are genuine priorities.

Choosing the coating based on how the surface will actually be used helps avoid selecting a finish that is either unnecessarily aggressive or not robust enough for the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ultra Grip used for?

Ultra Grip is designed for demanding commercial, industrial and marine applications including trailers, ramps, loading docks, warehouses, wet-process areas, manufacturing facilities and marinas.

Is Ultra Grip suitable for trailers?

Yes. Trailers are specifically included among the recommended commercial and industrial applications for Ultra Grip.

What type of texture does Ultra Grip create?

When applied with a phenolic roller, Ultra Grip creates a pronounced, uniform ridged texture designed to provide aggressive traction.

Can Ultra Grip be applied to metal?
