Why Warehouse Entrances Need Additional Traction

Warehouse entrances are transition areas, meaning they often experience a combination of indoor and outdoor conditions.

Water can be tracked inside, dirt and debris may accumulate, and the same section of flooring can experience repeated traffic from workers, carts, equipment or forklifts.

A worn concrete floor may also become increasingly smooth over time.

Preparing the Floor Before Applying Ultra Grip

Correct surface preparation is one of the most important parts of any coating application.

Before Ultra Grip is applied, the surface must be:

• Clean
• Dry
• Structurally sound
• Free from dirt, dust, grease and other contaminants
• Properly prepared for coating adhesion

Ultra Grip Is a Two-Part Epoxy System

Ultra Grip consists of two components:

Part A - Base

Part B - Hardener

The two components must be mixed together before application.

The standard mixing ratio is:

4 parts Base (Part A) to 1 part Hardener (Part B) by volume.

Both components should be agitated thoroughly before they are combined.

How to Mix Ultra Grip

Once the correct amount of Base and Hardener has been measured, the components should be mixed thoroughly.

For proper mixing, use a suitable mixing attachment with a 400–600 RPM variable-speed drill.

Continue mixing until the coating looks uniform and the components are completely combined.

There is no induction period required. Once Ultra Grip has been mixed, it should be used immediately. Thinning is not recommended.

Ultra Grip Pot Life

At approximately 75°F / 24°C, the approximate pot life is:

• Regular Cure: 1–1.5 hours
• Low Temp Cure: approximately 1 hour

Because this is a two-component epoxy coating, only mix what can realistically be applied within the available pot life.

Pouring and Applying Ultra Grip

After mixing, the epoxy can be poured directly onto the properly prepared surface.

Ultra Grip can then be distributed across the floor using the appropriate application method.

In this warehouse entrance project, the installer uses a squeegee to spread the product across the concrete surface.

Application method can affect the final profile of the coating.

Phenolic Roller Application

Applying Ultra Grip with a phenolic roller creates a more uniform ridged texture.

Trowel or Squeegee Application

Applying Ultra Grip with a trowel or squeegee can create a somewhat smoother applied profile while still retaining the aggressive texture associated with Ultra Grip.

The correct application method should always be selected according to the project requirements and the current product instructions.

What Does the Finished Ultra Grip Surface Look Like?

How Long Does Ultra Grip Take to Cure?

Allow approximately 24 hours for full cure before exposing the surface to heavy traffic, subject to environmental conditions and the specific Ultra Grip version being used.

Temperature, humidity and application conditions can influence curing times, so always follow the Technical Data Sheet.

The coating should not be placed into service prematurely.
